Princess captain joins Virgin Voyages in vp role

He's responsible for security, safety and marine issues, and reports to Stuart Hawkins, svp technical marine operations.

Perrin will help Virgin Voyages with its lifesaving and firefighting arrangements and will develop the bridge and safety center, alongside the Fincantieri newbuilding team. He'll also develop ship operating procedures, particularly with respect to navigation, security and safety management.

'It’s a big, important job and we couldn’t be happier that he’s on board with us to lead this work,' chief marketing officer Nathan Rosenberg told Seatrade Cruise News.

A native of Dorset, England, Perrin attended the College of Maritime Studies in Southampton and started his seagoing career with the Royal Fleet Auxiliary. His first cruise ship job was aboard P&O Cruises' Canberra.

Perrin signed on with Princess Cruises in 1996 aboard Pacific Princess and was part of the company's shipyard team during the building of Grand Princess. He also spent a year as staff captain aboard Cunard's Queen Mary 2.

He served as the inaugural captain for Regal Princess in 2014.

Besides Perrin's high profile as a captain, he became known to the wider public last year via ITV's hit documentary, 'The Cruise,' filmed aboard Regal Princess.
