The three-masted, full-rigged vessel is the first new ship in 20 years for Sea Cloud Cruises. It was built at Metalships & Docks SAU in Vigo and delivered in May.
Blessed Champagne bottles
Two Champagne bottles were carried on foot by Spanish shipping lawyer and legal representative of Sea Cloud Cruises, Javier Arias-Camisón, in a 74-mile/120-kilometer pilgramage to the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela to be blessed and will be part of the Sept. 3 christening ceremony.
One of the bottles will be smashed on Sea Cloud Spirit's hull during the christening while the other will be auctioned off for charity on the maiden voyage, Sept. 14 -24, from Civitavecchia (Rome).
Sea Cloud Spirit is the modern interpretation of the 90-year-old Sea Cloud, the flagship of Sea Cloud Cruises, and Sea Cloud II, built in 2001. The vessel has capacity for 136 passengers and 85 crew and is hand-sailed.
