Starboard appoints John McGirl as chief people experience officer

Retail giant Starboard Cruise Services appointed John McGirl as chief people experience officer to lead the LVMH company's worldwide employee experience.

McGirl brings more than 30 years of experience, most recently as chief operations officer for The World, Residences at Sea, and previously with Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, Royal Caribbean International, Azamara, Cunard and Seabourn, among others.  

Reports to Lisa Bauer

At Starboard he'll be a member of the executive leadership team and report directly to President and CEO Lisa Bauer.

McGirl's 'track record, depth of industry knowledge and excitement to drive the growth of our business as well as our customer-centric culture makes him the ideal leader to enhance the employee experience,' Bauer said.

He's an expert in building customer-centric, performance-driven teams while fostering diversity, equity and inclusion.

Vast HR experience

Before joining The World in 2015, McGirl was chief human resources officer at NCLH, VP human resources for Royal Caribbean International and Azamara, and VP human resources and quality assurance at Cunard and Seabourn.

He has served as an adjunct professor at Florida International University, School of Hospitality Management and chair of the educational committee for the Marine Hotel Association Scholarship Foundation. Currently he's secretary of the Marine Hotel Association.
