He hosted a media lunch at Cafe Sydney in the Customs House at Circular Quay, overlooking the Overseas Passenger Terminal, on Tuesday during his first visit to Australia since the pandemic.

Plus Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne

Spivak, who arrived in Adelaide July 17, departs Sydney on Wednesday for Brisbane. He will then visit Melbourne before returning to Sydney and flying back to head office in Connecticut.

He has been hosting trade and media events throughout his whirlwind trip with country manager Australia David Clark.

Tauck, founded by Arthur Tauck Sr in 1925 and now chaired by his son Arthur Tauck Jr, operated its first European river cruise in 1993.

It now has nine river boats, owned by another family-owned company, Scylla of Switzerland, that sail on the major European rivers: Rhine, Main, Danube, Rhone, Seine and Moselle.

With passengers from 84 countries, they carry between 98 and 130 and are all-inclusive.

Australia No 2 market

Spivak said that, after North America, Australia is the company’s No 2 source market.

Canada follows, then the UK and Ireland, New Zealand, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

He said the company will pay particular attention in the future to New Zealand, a growing market.

‘As our ability to travel more freely is quickly returning, we are delighted to be operating nearly all our tours and cruises around the globe once again, positioning us for a robust recovery in 2022/23,’ Clark said.
