Virgin Voyages trims shoreside staff to 'maximize efficiencies'

Virgin Voyages is gearing up to introduce Resilient Lady in the spring in Greece and Brilliant Lady next winter in the Caribbean
Virgin Voyages cut what sources said were 12 positions across several departments on Tuesday.

This is a relatively small number compared to recent widespread, painful layoffs at other lines but it's hard felt at a smaller brand like Virgin Voyages.

A company spokesperson told Seatrade Cruise News 'a few roles were impacted to maximize efficiencies.'

This comes as Virgin Voyages prepares to introduce the recently delivered Resilient Lady in May from Piraeus, Greece and the fourth and final Lady Ship in the series, Brilliant Lady, to follow from San Juan, Puerto Rico in December.

Optimizing operations

Here is the spokesperson's full statement: 'As our company continues to grow and looks at optimizing operations ahead of our two ship launches later this year, we have to best prepare ourselves for success in terms of structure and roles. In the process, redundancies were identified in various roles and a few roles were impacted to maximize efficiencies.

'We are so incredibly appreciative of our entire crew and the contributions that affected team members brought to this brand. As we look ahead for the year to come, we're excited for the growth opportunities on the horizon and bringing two new Lady Ships into the fleet.'
