William K. Reilly plans to retire from the board of Royal Caribbean Group effective Jan. 26.

He has served as a Royal Caribbean director since 1998.

Leadership on environmental and safety issues

Reilly's retirement follows a 'distinguished tenure of nearly 25 years, during which he provided significant leadership on environmental and safety issues, including as chair of the board’s safety, environment, sustainability and health committee,' Royal Caribbean said in a filing.

Former EPA administrator

Reilly is the founding partner of Aqua International Partners, a private equity fund dedicated to investing in companies engaged in water. From 1989 to 1993, he served as the administrator of the US Environmental Protection Agency, leading efforts to pass a new Clean Air Act and heading the US delegation to the UN Conference on Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro in 1992.

He is chairman emeritus of the World Wildlife Fund and chairman of the Advisory Committee to the Nicholas Institute for Environmental Policy Solutions at Duke University.
