Christopher Prelog, who was appointed Windstar Cruises president 2.5 years ago, is making his first visit to Australia in that capacity to ‘zero in on the local market.’

Prelog, who arrived late Tuesday and leaves on Saturday evening, hosted an elaborate ‘high tea’ for media at the Shangri-La Sydney on Wednesday.

Over scones with jam and cream, cakes and pastries, accompanied by Shangri-La’s signature Markview brut cuvee from Hanwood in New South Wales, Prelog told guests that Windstar celebrated its 35th anniversary in Tahiti last October.

Tribute to TraveltheWorld

He paid tribute to Andrew Millmore, MD of TraveltheWorld, the company that has represented Windstar in Australia since 1988, two years after its first ship, Wind Star, came on line.

Australia No. 2 market

He said Australia is the No. 2 source market for Windstar Cruises, after the United States.

The product suits Australians, he said, with no formalities and no black tie events.

Familiarisations were held for local travel advisers during Star Breeze’s recent season in Australia and New Zealand and the ship will return in November.

Heading to the Middle East

After leaving Sydney, Prelog will travel to the Middle East where Windstar Cruises will operate an inaugural voyage in November.
