AIDAprima’s first visit to Rotterdam was in April 2016 and since then has brought an estimated 550,000 guests to the city and region.

German Thursday

Onboard guests are currently welcomed bi-weekly on Thursdays, a day fondly nicknamed 'German Thursday' by locals in Rotterdam.

The guests favour Rotterdam City Center for shopping, the Markthal, Depot Boijmans van Beuningen, Spido, Splashtours and panoramic tram.

A second home for crew

Many of the crew call Rotterdam their second home. A pro-active approach between cruise port and cruise line has resulted in visits by the local community onboard showcasing the environmental technologies already in place as well as energy efficiency and resource conservation onboard.

‘As the cruise industry continues to grow, it’s vital for cruise lines, ports and destination stakeholders to discuss and identify challenges and work together on best practices and solutions that already are in place and those that can be applied in practice now and for years to come,’ said Falk Bleckert, captain of AIDAprima.

Use of biofuels

On December 8, 2022 AIDAprima was the first cruise vessel taking on 100% biofuel in Rotterdam in collaboration with biofuel pioneer GoodFuels.

This month AIDAprima was refueled for the first time using 100% renewable Bio Marine Fuel by VARO Energy. The latter being part of a pilot project to evaluate the fuel performance in regular ship operations for potential future use.

This blended biofuel is produced entirely from advanced feedstocks organic waste or residue.
