Pride of America skipped its Big Island ports, Hilo and Kona, on Tuesday and Wednesday, substituting a day at Lahaina (Maui) and a sea day. The ship sails weekly round-trips from Honolulu (Oahu) to Kahului (Maui), Hilo and Kona (Hawaii) and Nawiliwili (Kauai).

Norwegian Cruise Line president and CEO Andy Stuart called the volcano situation 'somewhat fluid and uncertain. We have to watch it very closely, and always under the mantra of the safety and security of our guests is the No. 1 priority,' he told Seatrade Cruise News.

'The beauty of [the Hawaiian Islands],' Stuart added, 'is that there's a range of diverse destinations for us to be able to change around and adjust the itinerary.'
