Amsterdam Cruise Port to be dissolved; long live Cruise Port Amsterdam
Amsterdam Cruise Port (ACP), a non-profit association founded 25 years ago, and set up to support and grow ocean and river cruise tourism in the city and surrounding areas, is to be dissolved as of January 1.
Partners of ACP include the Port of Amsterdam, the passenger terminals in Amsterdam and IJmuiden, the port authority, port agents, incoming tour operators, various attractions and tourist service providers, hotels, local and provincial authorities. It also covers river cruise operations in the city and wider region.
‘After careful consideration and evaluation, we have come to the conclusion that the original purpose of ACP, namely to promote awareness of the region and encourage cooperation, has been largely achieved,’ Chair Monic van der Heyden said.
‘For this reason, the board has decided to dissolve the Amsterdam Cruise Port foundation as of January 1, 2024. This step offers our members the opportunity to focus more on their local and regional objectives regarding cruise and tourism.’
Ocean and river cruise business as usual
Van der Heyden, commercial director of Cruise Port Amsterdam told Seatrade Cruise News, ‘the decision to dissolve ACP has no impact whatsoever on ocean and river cruise operations in the cruise port of Amsterdam or the staff – it’s business as usual at Cruise Port Amsterdam (CPA) where Dick de Graaff is the managing director and Frank Schoenmaker is cruise ops and facility manager.’
Van der Heyden explained, ‘It is important to note that most of the activities related to ocean cruise in Amsterdam will still continue. For example, the cooperation of Cruise Holland joint promotion at Seatrade Cruise Global and the ACP breakfast in Miami have proved valuable and we will continue these activities.’
She thanked everyone involved with ACP for their continued support: ‘together we have achieved a lot, and we look forward to new opportunities and collaborations in the future, albeit in a different way.’
Over 100 ocean cruise calls
Cruise Port Amsterdam is welcoming over 100 cruise calls this year and the season will conclude on December 31 with a overnight call by P&O Cruises’ Ventura.
