Port of Adria, a subsidiary of Gloabl Ports Holding and operator of Bar, handled its first scheduled cruise ship Thompson Celebration on May 11, 2016.

Thomson Celebration docked at the 280mtr long quay, bringing 1,222 passengers and 550 crew members to Bar.

The Thomson Cruises' vessel is using Dubvrovnik as a home base again this summer after debuting in 2015, offering adults-only cruising.

Passengers were welcomed with local food produce and folk dancers.

'It is our please to be able to provide the necessary infrastructure, in accordance with international standards, to host cruise passengers. Port of Adria can accommodate large cruise ships. Our intention is to enhance these conditions in the future,' said Sedat Kara, acting ceo of Port of Adria.

Municipality President, dr Zoran Srzentić emphasized the significance of development of cruising for local economy. 'We recognize the significance and possibilities for the Bar economy if, apart from commercial operations, our port would be able to attract cruise vessels as well. These are the first, but certainly important steps in this direction.'
 
'We believe that Bar and Montenegro have great potential in terms of cruise tourism development. We shall continue to promote Bar in order to increase the number of cruise calls and create opportunities for the local economy,' said Arpak Demircan, deputy ceo of Global Ports Holding which is operating a portfolio of 10 ports in Barcelona, Malaga, Lisbon, Valletta, Singapore, Dubrovnik, Ege Ports-Kusadasi, Bodrum, Port Akdeniz-Antalya and Adria-Bar and provided services for over 5m passengers annually.
