Blue Lagoon Island reopens after ferry incident but Royal Caribbean isn't back yet

A Royal Caribbean spokesperson told Seatrade Cruise News its tours to Blue Lagoon haven't resumed yet.

Bahamas OKs reopening

The Bahamas Port Authority approved Blue Lagoon Island to restart commercial maritime operations at Christmas after a comprehensive examination of the destination's entire fleet of vessels, its policies, procedures and staff training protocols. All employees underwent further enhanced boating safety training.

On Nov. 14 more than 100 Royal Caribbean passengers were aboard a Blue Lagoon cataraman approaching the island when it took on water in rough seas and listed, according to news reports. Videos showed people crowded to one side of the boat and jumping into the water.

Colorado woman died

A Colorado grandmother, 75, died. She was accompanied by family members and said to be wearing an oxygen device on her back when the ferry began to sink.

The incident sparked a multi-agency investigation.
