The decision to convert a range of planned South Pacific cruises to domestic voyages is in response to ‘overwhelming demand for closer-to-home itineraries.’
Great Barrier Reef boost
The company announced that nine of the new itineraries departing Sydney and Brisbane will visit the Great Barrier Reef and surrounding areas, as well as Moreton Island.
Cairns, Port Douglas and Airlie Beach are some of the destinations to be visited.
Carnival Splendor is scheduled to sail from Sydney on nine-, 10- and 12-day cruises on June 15, June 28, August 10, September 7, October 3 and October 19.
Carnival Spirit is scheduled to make seven-day cruises from Brisbane on June 27, July 25, October 17 and November 14.
The new domestic cruises are expected to account for a A$16.7m boost to the Queensland economy.
