Carnival Cruise Line in Australia will convert 30% of its international 2021 itineraries to Australia and New Zealand-based cruises.

The decision to convert a range of planned South Pacific cruises to domestic voyages is in response to ‘overwhelming demand for closer-to-home itineraries.’

Great Barrier Reef boost

The company announced that nine of the new itineraries departing Sydney and Brisbane will visit the Great Barrier Reef and surrounding areas, as well as Moreton Island.

Cairns, Port Douglas and Airlie Beach are some of the destinations to be visited.

Carnival Splendor is scheduled to sail from Sydney on nine-, 10- and 12-day cruises on June 15, June 28, August 10, September 7, October 3 and October 19.

Carnival Spirit is scheduled to make seven-day cruises from Brisbane on June 27, July 25, October 17 and November 14.

The new domestic cruises are expected to account for a A$16.7m boost to the Queensland economy.

‘Incredibly lucky’

‘We are incredibly lucky to have this beautiful part of the world as our playground and there is no better way to explore the beauty of Australia than by sea,’ Jennifer Vandekreeke, VP and GM Australia, said.
