Carnival monitors Francine, headed toward New Orleans

Port of New Orleans is closing Wednesday for Francine, forecast to make landfall as a hurricane.

Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center in Miami project Francine landing in Louisiana on Wednesday or Wednesday night.

Carnival Valor turnaround

Carnival Valor is scheduled to turn around at New Orleans Thursday, however Carnival Cruise Line advised travelers to stay tuned for possible changes. Valor called at Progreso today and has a sea day Wednesday.

Travelers due to embark Thursday should also stay tuned.

Passengers can sign up for alerts by texting CCL1 to CRUISE (278473).

Port of New Orleans said normal operations for Thursday depend on damage assessments and operations may resume at noon, weather and terminal conditions permitting.

Port of Galveston

According to an update from the Port of Galveston, based on Francine's current track, Galveston has a 'low chance of sustained tropical storm force winds' (more than 40 mph), while 'Heavy rain and road flooding are possible at the port.'
