Christchurch will finally be the venue for the annual conference of the New Zealand Cruise Association in 2023.

Christchurch was scheduled to host the event in 2020 and again in 2021, but both conferences were cancelled due to the COVID-19 lockdown.

Earthquake recovery, new cruise berth

The 2020 conference was to mark the city’s recovery from the devastating February 2011 earthquake and the following year to celebrate the opening of the new purpose-built cruise berth in nearby Lyttelton.

NZCA 2022 was held in Auckland, where the first conference was held in 2013, with around 200 delegates from major ports and tourism organisations across the North and South Islands united to ‘bring back to life what was New Zealand’s vibrant cruise industry.’

CEO Kevin O’Sullivan said NZCA 2023 will be held at the Christchurch Town Hall on August 18 and more details will follow shortly.

The Town Hall in the centre of the city on the banks of the Avon River where punting is a popular pastime has been restored following the earthquake damage and the building is now designated a Category 1 Historic Place by Heritage New Zealand.
