India's Cochin Port released an Expression of Interest (EoI) for the development, operation and management of the existing Sagarika Cruise Terminal and development of surrounding land for tourism and hospitality activities.

Cochin welcomed 44 cruise ships and around 68,000 passengers in 2019/20, followed by a fallow year due to the pandemic. In 2022/23, the number of cruise calls is projected at 31 with over 36,000 passengers.

The Sagarika Cruise Terminal is a single storey building located on the Ernakulam Wharf of Cochin Port covering an area of around 2.43 acres. The berth measures 600mr with an 11mtr draft.

There are adjacent landside areas surrounding the terminal for the proposed phased development plan of 9.38 acres outside the custom bonded area and an additional 1.96 acres inside the custom bonded area.

PPP/land lease model

The project is based on a PPP/land lease model and the Eol seeks to elicit responses and feedback from key stakeholders and industry experts; which would then form the basis of the preparation of the tender document to be floated by Cochin Port.

May 31 deadline

A copy of the EoI is available on Cochin Port’s website.

The last date of submission of the EoI is May 31, 2023.
