The company awaits approval from Cuban authorities, but still anticipates its first cruise from Miami to the island will sail May 1.

Russell, who doubles as global impact lead for Carnival Corp. & plc, also said Fathom is now being marketed as 'a different kind of cruise that combines your love of travel with your desire to make a difference.'

Russell spoke to international media during a preview of Fathom's Dominican Republic social impact activities. Cruises on Adonia will start in April to the Dominican Republic's Amber Cove on the north coast near Puerto Plata and alternate weekly with the Cuba itinerary.
