Denmark is surrounded by water, which means unimaginable expedition possibilities when going to the Scandinavian gem

The Danish cruise ports want to attract smaller cruise vessels with fewer cruise guests that can call a port all year and fit smaller destinations.

To make it easier for the expedition cruises to add Denmark to their next itinerary, a new expedition cruise catalogue has been published. Here, cruise lines can find information about the different ports in Denmark and inspiration for on-shore activities.

The perfect location for nature experiences and history

Being placed in the heart of Scandinavia, Denmark is the ideal stop for cruises on their way further north. With a coastline of almost 7,300 kilometres, over 400 named islands, and countless navigable fjords, coves and bays, the country offers stunning cruise experiences and nature for all tastes.

The Scandinavian gem offers a great variety of nature and experiences

Among onshore activities, the catalogue highlights hiking in ice age landscapes, green kayaking, and visits to historical castles from the middle age.

For example, glaciers have created spectacular landscapes by carving deep valleys out between vast hills just outside Aarhus, the second largest city in Denmark. Here, cruise guests can learn what Danes mean by “hygge” (pronounced “hoo-gah” and roughly translated as “cosiness”) while learning about local ingredients and cooking campfire meals.

And Danish cuisine is for sure something to add to the list of unique experiences.

In July this year, Geranium, a Copenhagen-based restaurant, enriched the title as the world’s best restaurant on The World’s 50 Best Restaurants list. This is the second year in a row a Danish restaurant tops the list, which strengthens Denmark’s position as one of the leading gastro destinations with some of the world’s best dining experiences.

Also, the Danish restaurants Alchemist and Jordnær are on the list - ranked 18 and 38.

However, the food and nature are not the only noticeable thing about Denmark. During the past 12 months, the Danish capital, Copenhagen, has received great praise. Monocle has ranked Copenhagen as the world’s most liveable city, CNN has named it the new ’Capital of cool’, Time Out has picked Nørrebro in Copenhagen as the world’s coolest neighbourhood, and Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) has awarded the capital with the title of the safest city in the world.

It is safe to say that this Scandinavian Pearl offers everything a cruise guest can possibly need.
