The planned works will ensure Genoa, a MedCruise member, will be able to cater for the arrival of next generation ultra-large cruise vessels. The draft by the Ponte dei Mille Cruise Terminal is set to increase by up to 11mtr, and by 10mtr along the Ferry Terminal docks.

The cruise port is currently seeing 3500m3 of sediment excavated daily, equal to the size of a four-storey building, to ensure dredging operations in this area are concluded by the spring.

The project forms part of a wide-ranging plan to upgrade the docks of Genoa Sampierdarena’s cargo terminals and Old Port passenger terminals to improve accessibility. Within three years, shore power will be installed at the ports of Genoa and Savona at a cost of €26m.
