Falmouth Harbour significantly developed its facilities during Mark Sansom's tenure
England’s southwest harbour of Falmouth is hunting for a new CEO as long standing harbour master and chief executive, Mark Sansom, is retiring at the end of this year.

Samson joined Falmouth Harbour Commissioners (FHC) in 1992 as deputy harbour master and was appointed harbour master and chief executive in 2000.

Under his tenure of more than 28 years, Falmouth Harbour has significantly developed its facilities and hosted some major events including three tall ships races. Cruise traffic has also grown at the picturesque harbour in the past two decades.

Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic and temporary halt in cruising, Falmouth had planned to welcome 34 cruise ships this year in a season running from April to October.

Smaller ships up to 230mtr in length use the berth in Falmouth Docks which is 10 minutes from the town centre and managed by A & P Falmouth; larger vessels such as Island Princess which had booked five calls in 2020 anchor in the sheltered bay.

Beyond the town are a variety of shorex opportunities to visit the Cornish coast and countryside, including Land’s End and the Eden Project.

The current combined role of chief executive and harbour master have been reassigned into two new roles, with Duncan Paul in the role of harbour master.
