For the first time, Azamara passengers step foot on Pitcairn

The feat was achieved during Azamara Onward’s 2024 world cruise, which started in Fort Lauderdale, USA on January 5 and ends in Barcelona, Spain on June 9. 

Cruise lines that have called in the Pitcairn Islands, or are scheduled to arrive there in 2024 or 2025, include: Costa Cruises, Hapag-Lloyd Cruises, Phoenix Reisen, Princess Cruises, Ponant, Scenic, Seabourn and Silversea, among others. 

Conditions unpredictable

‘Not many cruisers get the opportunity to visit Pitcairn Island – the weather usually does not cooperate, and there are no bays or coves for the ship to anchor in,’ explained Michael Pawlus, head of itinerary planning at Azamara. 

‘This is the very first time in my career that I have seen the weather allow for guests to go ashore on Pitcairn Island. I’ve designed nearly 20 itineraries that include the stop before, so I’m thrilled that all conditions were in our favour this time, giving our world cruisers an incredibly unique experience in such an isolated destination.’

2025 and 2026 world voyages

Details of Azamara’s 2025 world cruise were previously reported.  

Azamara’s 2026 World Cruise includes 46 late nights and overnights, and 13 exclusive events. 

Pitcairn Islands 

The Pitcairn Islands – Pitcairn, Henderson, Ducie and Oeno – are located in the south-central Pacific Ocean. Ideal for stargazing and home to one of the world’s largest marine reserves, Pitcairn Island was popularised for its connection with the mutineers of HMS Bounty, whose descendents populate the island. 

Today, it is home to 50 residents, some of whom are open to sharing stories of their culture and crafts with visitors.
