MSC Cruises set a new daily record for a single line at Genoa on Sunday, as it clocked up 22,000 passenger movements.

The figure, which takes into account movement for embarkation, disembarkation and shore excursions, arose from four MSC Cruises ships in port. MSC World Europa, MSC Grandiosa, MSC Orchestra and MSC Opera were berthed simultaneously, with the line seeing 205,000 passengers utilise Genoa in October.

Italian Ports shared their 2023 and 2024 predictions for cruise calls and passenger numbers at the Italian Cruise Day event on Friday.

1,000 calls to Italian port this year

MSC Cruises will make 1,000 calls to Italian ports in 2023, including 260 visits to Genoa, and is on target for 4m passengers in Italy during the year.

MSC Europa homeporting in Genoa

MSC World Europa will homeport in Genoa for the winter 2023-24 season with seven-night cruises in the West Mediterranean to Civitavecchia and Palermo in Italy, Valletta in Malta, Barcelona in Spain and Marseille in France.

The LNG-powered ship will also homeport in Genoa for the summer 2024 season.
