Golden Horizon to host Croatian fans during Qatar World Cup
Golden Horizon, the five masted square-rigged cruise ship, will stay in Old Doha Port during the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, used as a floating hotel for Croatian football fans.
The vessel, built and owned by Croatian shipbuilder DIV Group, was due to sail for UK-based charterer Tradewind Voyages in the Mediterranean this summer and in the Caribbean winter 2022-23. These itineraries were cancelled and the ship was last reported positioned in the Adriatic.
Heading from Croatia to Doha in October
According to the Croatian Business Council (CBC) in Qatar, the ship is due to sail from Croatia to Doha in October.
The 2022 World Cup runs from mid November through to December 18.
The project is part of efforts to promote Croatian culture and tourism, and to showcase the country’s love for sport and the national team.
Strengthening bilateral ties
‘This project is a testament to a great relationship between our two countries and we hope that this will only serve to strengthen our bilateral ties,’ said Mario Lozančić, president of CBC.
Inspiration for taking Golden Horizon to Qatar came in 2019 when the Qatari Fath Al Khair dhow sailed to Croatia to promote the World Cup, said Omar Saciragic, project director at CBC.
Information about cabin types, and packages for bookings is avaliable via the CBC’s website.
Inchcape
Inchcape Shipping Services are the exclusive port and logistics agents for Golden Horizon during the stay in Old Doha Port.
MSC Cruises’ MSC World Europa, scheduled for delivery ahead of the World Cup, along with MSC Poesia will also be used as floating hotel accommodation for the event and these two ships will be berthed in Doha’s deep water port.
