It encompasses the art deco coastal city of Napier, the site of the 2014 conference, and the inland city of Hastings, which has more than 70 wineries.

Great Wine Capitals network

Last year Hawke’s Bay, which produces 90% of New Zealand’s syrah, cabernet sauvignon and merlot, was inducted into the Great Wine Capitals Global Network, joining other leading wine tourism regions including Verona, Bordeaux, Cape Town and Mendoza.

Hamish Saxton, CEO of Hawke’s Bay Tourism, gave a presentation about next year’s conference at NZCA 2024 in Auckland and said pre- and post-conference tours to the region’s many tourist attractions are planned.

At least 38 reasons to attend

‘We grow 38 varietals of wine,’ Saxton said.

‘There are already 38 great reasons to join us next year.’
