Heritage Expeditions’ flagship Heritage Adventurer became the first expedition cruise ship to visit Pasir Putih on Indonesia’s far-flung Buru island during its current ‘Indonesian Explorer’ voyage.

The 140 passengers were welcomed with traditional dances and a specially prepared feast.

Incredible privilege

New Zealand owners Aaron and Nathan Russ said it was an ‘incredible privilege’ to be welcomed by around 1,000 locals from six villages.

Supporting remote communities well off the beaten track and experiencing new cultures is the ‘true essence of authentic expedition cruising,’ Aaron Russ said.

Family tradition

‘We are incredibly proud to continue the family tradition of sharing incredible adventures with our guests,’ he added.

‘Being able to offer these unforgettable moments is all part of the Heritage experience.’
