Buenos Aires on Thursday welcomed Zaandam as the first ship in a season that stretches through March.

430,000 passengers in BA

José Beni, controller of the General Administration of Ports, was on hand for the Holland America Line arrival. He said more than 430,000 passengers would visit Buenos Aires Port's Quinquela Martín terminal, which 'continues to add services and is one of the most modern in the entire region.'

Economic benefits for the region

Beni noted cruisers add economic activity to the entire region by touring Buenos Aires, shopping and dining, and visiting museums and attractions, the Tigre Delta and ranches.

More than 70 Zaandam passengers were booked for a day tour to Iguazú Falls via charter flight. This is part of the ship's 73-day South America/Antarctica cruise round-trip from Port Everglades.

Beni, together with the Ports Administation's Ariel Deán, manager of institutional affairs, and Daniel Trimarco, deputy manager of cruises and ferries, toured Zaandam and exchanged commemorative plaques with Capt. Ane Smith.

AIDAsol next arrival

The next scheduled ship is AIDA Cruises' AIDAsol, a maiden call, on Nov. 17.
