TUI Cruises’ Marella Explorer 2 is the first cruise ship to visit Dundee Port since the start of the pandemic, arriving on July 28.

It follows the announcement that domestic sailings to Scotland can resume.

Gradual recovery

The arrival of Marella Explorer 2 marks the start of the Scottish cruise season for Forth Ports’ Capital Cruising, which welcomes cruise ships into the Scottish ports of Leith, Rosyth and Dundee, and anchorages at Newhaven and South Queensferry.

‘After an extremely challenging 18 months for us all, we are extremely pleased to welcome Marella Explorer 2 into Dundee,’ said Rob Mason, head of cruise, Capital Cruising.

‘This first call into Dundee is a clear sign that there is a demand for UK cruise holidays and we look forward to welcoming more calls into our ports throughout the season, as the industry safely restarts and begins a gradual recovery.’

Marella Explorer 2 sailed from Newcastle as part of its 6-night ‘British Treasures’ itinerary. Its passengers, 800 in total, will spend the day in Dundee.
