MedCruise coming together in Corfu

All Mediterranean roads lead to Corfu, Greece next week as the MedCruise 62nd General Assembly takes place May 23-26.

The event at the Corfu Holiday Palace Hotel is expected to attract more than 100 delegates, executives from 15 cruise lines and 12 journalists.

Figen Ayan, president of MedCruise said, ‘I love Greece and its islands. I am even more excited as this is the first time that I am able to discover this vibrant island with its old centre, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site, that also has a different charm thanks to the multicultural Italian, French and British influences in every corner of its streets or lush bays.’

Cruise line executives attending are from Carnival Cruise Line, Carnival UK, Celestyal, Costa, Crystal, Fred. Olsen, Grand Circle, Holland America Line, Ponant, Princess, Royal Caribbean Group, SeaDream, Silversea, Swan Hellenic and Variety Cruises.

Aris Bastoulis, development director & cruise management, Corfu Port Authority and MedCruise director responsible for projects, studies & finance said, ‘I hope all participants will have the opportunity to get acquainted with the city of Corfu, characterized by its rich history and many exceptional particularities in terms of its cultural and architectural features.’

Throughout the days there will be MedCruise member-only sessions, fam trips for the cruise lines and media and one for members, full conference and  B2B meetings.

Topics due to be covered will include the challenges of cruise activity on islands compared to mainland ports, berthing allocation, accessibility for cruising guests visiting destinations. small ship and expedition cruise operations in the Mediterranean and the role of media in cruise.

Ayan thanked the hosts Port Authority of Corfu, in particular CEO Spyros Zervopoulos, Bastoulis, the former president of MedCruise, Rodi Cratsa, Governor of the Region of the Ionian Islands, Meropi Ydraiou, Mayor of the Municipality of Central Corfu and Vaggelis Kyriazopoulos, Secretary General of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs & Insular Policy ‘for presenting Corfu to the cruise industry in such a unique and special manner.’

Over 150 port members

MedCruise’s membership extends to 22 countries, located on three different continents, Africa, Asia and Europe representing more than 150 ports and 47 associate members.

During the GA, new port member Cesme Port and new associates: Davelor Ship Services LTD, Transcoma, Altimex, Port Argentario, Romeu Shipping Division/Canaryship, Zadar Cruise Port, Kition Ocean Port in Larnaca and MILLER Y CÍA, are due to join the association.
