MedCruise attended the AIVP World Conference last month, hosted by one of its association members, the Port of Lisbon.

AIVP – the World Network of Port-Cities – is an NGO that brings together urban and port stakeholders and their partners around the world, supporting joint city-port sustainable development strategies.

MedCruise and AIVP established the Cruises & Port Cities Working Group in 2021, resulting in the Cruise Port City Compass – a publication addressing challenges and opportunities arising from the relationship between ports and port cities seen through the eyes of ports, cities, and cruise lines.

Involvement

During the special sessions devoted to cruise and mobility, MedCruise representatives had the opportunity to discuss related initiatives – involving technologies, innovations and policies – that foster collaboration between cruise ports and local and broader communities.

‘MedCruise intends to continue working with fellow associations representing cruise lines, ports, and destinations, as well as policy-makers, to lead initiatives in the sustainable growth of cruise activities in the Mediterranean and adjoining seas’ stated Theodora Riga, president of MedCruise.

Riga was joined by the association’s SVP Anne-Marie Spinosi and VP Laura Cimaglia. Spinosi presented the work of the association in promoting sustainable growth within the cruise industry, and emphasised the importance of ports and port cities forming collaborations.
