New British Virgin Islands app tailored to cruisers

Cruise visitors to the British Virgin Islands who download the new BVI Now app will get a special user experience.

First, they're greeted when they're detected entering the territory. Featured articles include 'A Walking Guide to Road Town & the Cyril B. Romney Tortola Pier Park' and 'A Walking Guide to Historic Main Street.' These highlight attractions, local Road Town businesses and places of interest with maps that work even if users don't have a data plan.

For those who venture beyond Road Town, there's also 'An Insider's Guide to Tortola' with attractions, beaches and places of interest across the island.

Automatic notifications about places of interest

When users near a place of interest, they are automatically notified with information, including more than 30 locations that have pirate lore.

No Wi-Fi or data plan needed

The British Islands Ports Authority said the app, developed in collaboration with BVI Now and downloadable, free, from the Apple App Store and Google Play, works no matter where the user is located, even if they're not in Wi-Fi range, don't have a data plan or have lost their cellular signal.

'We hope our guests will use the BVI Now app as their personal guide to explore and discover the history and culture that makes BVI so special,' said Oleanvine Maynard, managing director, BVI Ports Authority. '... We believe BVI Now will enhance our guests' experience, whether they're discovering BVI for the first time or discovering new favorites.'
