Plans are underway by Ports of Stockholm for a cruise quay at Frihamnen Port, which will double the capacity for turnaround cruises.

Aimed to be up and running in 2023, the project will get underway this year at a cost of 1.5m.

Promoting Stockholm as a port city

‘The cruise industry is very important for Stockholm and Ports of Stockholm has a clear mandate to support tourism,’ said Joakim Larsson, city planning commissioner responsible for Ports of Stockholm.

‘This investment in a new cruise quay improves our offering as a destination, which is important in promoting Stockholm’s standing as a port city,’ he added.

Sweden’s top destination for cruise traffic

Stockholm receives the country's largest number of international cruises. Pre-pandemic, 300 cruise ships on average called at Ports of Stockholm, generating 176m and around 1,100 jobs, according to the port.

Project cargo will also be handled at the quay.
