Debbie Summers said the NZCA is now looking at mid-2022 for its next conference
Debbie Summers, chairman of the New Zealand Cruise Association, said its 2021 conference, which was to have been held in Christchurch August 19-20, has been cancelled for the second year running.

Originally slated for August 19-20, 2020, it was to mark Christchurch’s recovery from the devastating February 2011 earthquake and to celebrate the opening of Lyttelton's new purpose-built cruise berth which was scheduled to open three months later.

The NZCA’s first annual conference was in Auckland in 2013 and every other year it has been held in a regional port. It was last held in Auckland in 2019.

‘This year has proven very much that we are still in a time of flux and change,’ Summers said.

Semblance of a season

She said the NZCA board decided to wait until there is a 'semblance of a season’ in 2021/22 and to organise ‘something that is positive, value for money, with international industry speakers’ at a later time.

Mid-2022

She said NZCA is now looking at holding its next conference mid-2022.

In the meantime, it will hold a series of regional updates around the country.

‘We are committed to being the voice of our industry and will continue to lobby for the best interests of all members,’ she said.
