Perfect Day at CocoCay's news Hideaway Beach can accommodate up to 1,800 people a day
Perfect Day at CocoCay's new Hideaway Beach is aptly touted as 'All adults. All party. All day.'

While 'hideaway' may suggest a tranquil retreat, this new expanse of beach, pools, bars, cabanas and live music at Royal Caribbean's popular private island is more akin to the action-packed Oasis Lagoon, but without the kids.

Up to 1,800 people in a 'Vegas beach club experience'

Hideaway Beach can accommodate up to 1,800 people in a 'Vegas beach club experience' for those 18 and older, as Royal Caribbean International's Vicki Freed, SVP sales, trade support & service, put it.

During a visit aboard Icon of the Seas, Seatrade Cruise News strolled along a roped-off waterfront trail in the sand to reach Hideaway Beach, a leisurely eight-minute walk. Most people rode in trams.

Access to Hideaway Beach is controlled, with prices ranging from $39 to $89, depending on the time of year. Visitors who pre-reserve the destination simply scan their SeaPass; on-site purchases are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Five bars

At one end, the rustic On the Rocks bar has pool tables, a band and screens airing sports events on a covered porch, and serves drinks like frozen margaritas, mai tais and rum punch. There are five bars throughout Hideaway Beach, and passengers can use their drinks packages for purchases.

The beach itself is lined with orange and white umbrellas, orange and aqua cushioned loungers and colorful Adirondack chairs. A large lagoon-like pool offers a swim-up bar under a big palapa that also provides shaded lounge seating.

The HIdeaway Hut serves burgers, hot dogs, chicken sandwiches, ceviche, coconut shrimp, fish sandwiches, fries, salads, cookies, brownies and funnel cake. Slice of Paradise has pizza slices including ones with special toppings like Bahamian seafood escabeche and island guava barbecue. There's no charge for the food.

Rental cabanas

Ten rental cabanas are available in the heart of the action near the swim-up bar, and 10 VIP cabanas are found in a slightly more secluded area called The Hideout. The Hideout cabanas line an exclusive infinity-pool with in-water loungers and a personal attendant.

Cabana prices range from $1,199 to $1,699, with the The Hideout cabanas priced from $1,699 to $2,699.

Celebrity calls

In the coming months, Celebrity Cruises will begin calling at Perfect Day at CocoCay with about 50 visits planned this year and Freed said 'That's to our advantage' because it could help expose the Royal Caribbean brand to an audience that might not have considered. A couple, for example, may think of planning a Royal Caribbean cruise with their grandchildren.

On some days, Celebrity and Royal Caribbean ships will be in port at the same time.
