Tall ships are among the 250 vessels that will sail into the Port of Hamburg for the Hamburg Port Anniversary event
A four-day celebration attended by national and international stars will take place in spring to mark the 835th anniversary of Hamburg port.

Taking place May 9-12, festivities will play out ashore and on water: from the fish auction hall to the Elbe Philharmonic concert hall, as well as in the traditional ship harbour, the Speicherstadt district, the Hansahafen venue, and in the Ovelgönne Museum Harbour.

The Hamburg Port Anniversary has been organised by Hamburg Messe und Congress for the past 30 years.

Light show from AIDA

On 10:30 pm on May 11, a light and drone show will illuminate AIDAprima at St. Pauli Piers (Landungsbrücken.)

In addition, around 250 vessels of all shapes and sizes, including tall ships and wreck and research ships, will sail into Hamburg for the event. Visitors will be able to board several vessels as part of an open ship campaign.

Music and fireworks

On Friday 10 at 8:45 pm a floating stage, supported by harbour tugs of the Fairplay Towage Group, will transform the Elbe into a sea of light as part of the ‘Elbe in Concert.’ There will be three acts followed by a fireworks display.

The bank along the Elbe will be transformed into a festival landscape for the duration of the event.

Cultural experiences

Exhibitions and tours will take place, hosted by cultural institutions along the Elbe.

This year’s international country partner for Germany is Latvia. Representatives of the state will offer insights into the country’s culture and tourism at the Kehrwiederspitze.

Traditional highlights

Traditional highlights comprise the International Ecumenical Opening Service in the main Church of St. Michael’s on May 9 at 2 pm followed by an arrival parade at 4 pm led this year by the frigate Hamburg. The customary tugboat ballet takes place on May 11 at 5 pm and the departure parade on May 12 at 5:30 pm.
