Work began at the beginning of this month on the Marina Deportiva del Odiel, set to cost more than €13m and scheduled for completion between the end of 2023 and the beginning of 2024.

The cruise terminal will be located five minutes from the heart of the city, giving passengers speedy access to commercial, leisure and restaurant spaces.

The plans form part of the remodelling of the new port front at the Levante wharf.

The announcement was made at Seatrade Cruise Global, attended by a delegation from the port —  a MedCruise association member — and the Association for the Commercial Promotion of the Port of Huelva, led by port President Pilar Miranda.

Aiming to attract investors

Miranda said the Huleva delegation attended Seatrade Cruise Global with ‘the aim of publicising the projects that we are going to carry out in the Levante wharf, such as the Odiel Marina, works already started by the concessionary company, and the future cruise terminal, to attract potential investors who will generate new opportunities for wealth and employment in Huelva.’

Marina Deportiva

The Marina Deportiva del Odiel — promoted by the company Sociedad de Gestión de Puertos y Marinas SL and the Club Deportivo Náutico Puerta del Atlántico — will house facilities built on a 7,200-square-metre platform over the water. To that will be added 1,200 square metres of the Levante wharf, which will offer such facilities as a gym and a nautical activities centre.

The Marina Deportiva complex will also have a unique boat-type building for catering, an infinity pool to blend in with the surroundings of the estuary and a 2,500-metre commercial space, which will include a sailing club and a sports school.

Supporting the Muelle de Levante

These facilities will complement the services and infrastructure of the Muelle de Levante that after a complete remodelling will serve as an urban space for the port and city, with green areas, leisure spaces, businesses, services, restaurants, sporting activities, cultural activities, maritime-sports and fishing activities.

The Levante dock will have up to 80,000 square metres available for all kinds of activities.

First smart marina in Andalusia

The Port of Huelva has promoted the creation of a management office for the remodelling project, awarded to a company specialising in large-scale urban transformation projects. They are seeking to create the first smart marina in Andalusia.

Companies CBRE, in collaboration with BOVIS and Metropoly, will be responsible for carrying out market studies for the Port of Huelva’s remodelling project, and is tasked with marketing and attracting investors generating wealth and employment for the province.
