So said Port of Los Angeles Executive Director Gene Seroka at his ninth annual 'State of the Port' address today.

$1.2m generated per cruise call

According to Seroka, each cruise call generates more than $1.2m in local payroll and business activity.

The port plans to issue a request for proposals in the coming months focused on building a new outer harbor cruise and conference center.

Princess Cruises' interest

Early last year Princess Cruises indicated its interest in being involved in the cruise upgrades.

More recently, as Princess President John Padgett said in Seatrade Cruise Review's December cover story: 'Whatever development goes on there, we will be participating.'
