Port Saint John ready for a record day with Oasis of the Seas

Oasis first visited in 2022 but now it will be carrying 1,000 more people than the first time — about 8,000 (5,931 passengers and 2,130 crew) — making a record visit for the port. This will almost double the population of the south end peninsula for a day.

'Port Saint John is proud to welcome back Royal Caribbean’s Oasis of the Seas,' said Natalie Allaby, cruise development manager, Port Saint John. 'Local businesses and residents can expect thousands of new people strolling the historic streets of Saint John and experiencing everything the city has to offer until the ship’s departure at 6:45 p.m.'

According to Port Saint John, the cruise business brings more than $68m annually to the city and southern New Brunswick economies. This includes direct spending by cruise lines, passengers and crew in the Bay of Fundy region and direct jobs for New Brunswickers.

Almost 200,000 passengers this season

2023 marks 34 years of cruise ships calling Port Saint John. Some 86 calls carrying almost 200,000 passengers total are scheduled throughout the six-month season, spanning from May 7 to Nov. 7. Other season highlights include 14 double ship days, five triple ships day and 10 inaugural calls.
