The project is part of a terminal usage agreement approved in 2022.

Terminal G was completed in 1999 for Voyager of the Seas and was enhanced in 2013.

Ability to handle Icon-class ships

The new terminal is expected to handle the latest Royal Caribbean International and Celebrity Cruises ships, including those of the Icon class with capacity for more than 7,000 passengers. It will be built to the county's sustainable buildings ordinance and have a multi-level shared parking garage with ground-level intermodal facility, connecting roadways and a provisioning building.

It will occupy both the existing site and PortMiami’s 1963-era administration building.

Miami-Dade is seeking a state-of-the-art terminal and parking garage complex with expanded baggage screening, passenger drop-off/pick-up areas and provisioning space. Part of the existing roadway system will be reconfigured to facilitate increased passenger traffic.

Demolition

The project includes the demolition of the existing terminal and PortMiami administration building, surrounding structures, roadways and sites to accommodate a new multi-story terminal and parking garage with a potential office shell space component above the new garage.

It may include a vehicular and pedestrian bridge connection from the existing Parking Garage G to the new garage, relocation of existing underground utilities, relocation and modification of existing systems required by Carrnival Cruse Line's Terminal F, currently located and fed through the existing and proposed Terminal G, modifications to the existing Parking Garage G and roadway reconfiguration.

At least LEED Silver

The selected design-build team is expected to deliver a concept with certification by Envision (for infrastructure) and at least LEED Silver (for the buildings).

The anticipated notice to proceed date is May 16, 2025, with a substantial completion date of Oct. 1, 2027.
