According to the Port of Leixões, a MedCruise member port, 71 cruise calls and 73.341 cruise passengers were registered in the first six months of the year, representing a 27% increase in calls and a 10% increase in passengers over the same period last year.

Seven of the 19 inaugural calls scheduled to take place occurred during the first half of the year.

Busiest period

Cruise activity was highest in April and May when the port welcomed 45 vessels and almost 46,000 passengers.

Most of the passengers visiting Porto Cruise Terminal and the Porto & North of Portugal region were from the United Kingdom (36%), Germany (29%) and the USA (23%) with various other nationalities making up the rest (12%).

With larger cruise vessels entering the market, the total gross tonnage of vessels arriving at the terminal increased by 9% in the first half of 2024 compared with the same period in 2023.
