The 94-passenger Ocean Nova, which arrived at Skeppsbron quay on April 22 on a maiden call, kickstarted Stockholm’s 2019 season.
A further five cruise ships are due to visit Ports Stockholm in the first week of the season with some 287 more calls expected, bringing an anticipated 650,000 passengers between April and October. Last year 619,000 passengers visited.
‘Marking the arrival of spring, It will be great to welcome both returning customers and a good deal of newcomers to Stockholm during the season,’ said Stefan Scheja, Ports of Stockholm’s cruise and ferry manager.
AIDA fleet 56 times in Stockholm
April 24 saw the arrival of AIDAdiva at Stadsgården, one of the 56 planned visits by the AIDA fleet, this year. Over the course of the season Norwegian Getaway will bring some 4,941 passengers to Stockholm.
‘Stockholm is a very popular destination and a record number of passengers are expected this year. Cruise traffic is very important to the region and for commerce, as the passengers, crew and cruise shipping companies spend close to SEK 900m each season,’ explains Fredrik Lindstål, chair of the board at Ports of Stockholm.
Maiden calls in 2019
Stockholm expects 12 maiden calls this year including Viking Jupiter, AIDAprima, Nieuw Statendam and Marella Explorer in May.
Green facts
Vessels can offload black and grey water. Offloading of sewage is included in the harbour fees and wastewater management facilities are available at all berths. In recent years 75-80% of cruise ships have offloaded sewage during stops.
Offloading of rubbish waste is also included in the harbour fees, with vessels offloading sorted rubbish paying a reduced tariff.
