Ports of Stockholm said it was down on the number of cruise ships arriving last year owing to the war in Ukraine, while simultaneously revealing an unexpected outcome.

Ports of Stockholm received 206 cruise ships in 2022, 110 more than in 2021, and passenger numbers reached 450,000 representing an increase of 86% on the previous year.

Down on pre-pandemic figures

This is still some way off Ports of Stockholm’s record 2019 figures – 281 cruise ships and 650,000 passengers – which it attributed to the ongoing conflict.

An unexpected outcome

Ports of Stockholm went on to explain that a ‘positive and unique’ outcome was that more than half of all cruise ships chose to stay one or more nights in Stockholm, providing a major boost to Stockholm’s tourism industry.
