In 2023, Viking Cruises revealed plans to introduce a new Viking Longship, purpose-built for the Seine River, to its fleet in 2025. It will operate the eight-day ‘Paris and the Heart of Normandy’ itinerary and is expected to bring more visitors to Rouen.

Itinerary

The programme sees passengers trace the legacy of figures like Rollo the Viking, Joan of Arc, Richard the Lionheart, and William the Conqueror, as well as discover literary legends like Gustave Flaubert.

Passengers can also delve into the world of Claude Monet and the impressionist and post-impressionist artists associated with the Rouen School.

When it comes to local cuisine, Rouen is recognised as a UNESCO City of Gastronomy.

Sustainable tourism

Rouen Tourisme is aiming to promote sustainable tourism practices through several key initiatives. These include encouraging slow tourism, bike rides and eco-friendly transportation, as well as revitalizing urban tourism with heritage-focused events and attractions. It also aims to reduce paper waste by encouraging digital guide and map usage, and more.
