Attractions 

The town of Sassnitz, located in the southwestern part of the Baltic Sea, is a gateway to Rügen island and its sandy beaches, extensive countryside and picturesque villas. 

Home to Europe’s longest outer pier stretching 1,444 mtr across the Baltic Sea, it has artisan workshops, ship chandlers and sail makers, museums and shops as well as regional products that can be found alongside fishmongers and restaurants offering marinated or smoked fish buns. 

Sassnitz is also a starting point for visits to Jasmund National Park - a site of white chalk cliffs and ancient beech forests recognised by UNESCO. 

In addition to seaside resorts, architectural sites and spas, hiking and biking are available from the town. 

A ‘favourable location’ for cruise ships 

‘We are very much looking forward to welcoming more cruise guests to the region,’ remarked Thomas Langlotz, MD, Port of Sassnitz, ‘Sassnitz, Rügen and the surrounding area have a lot to offer… An advantage for cruise lines is that Sassnitz has a favourable geographical location that offers the shortest sea connection from Germany to Scandinavia, Russia and the Baltic states.’ 

Sassnitz city port offers exclusive berthing for small to medium-sized cruise ships and the Mukran Port, located six km from the city port, provides berthing conditions for medium and large cruise ships. 

The port is accessible without obligation for pilot services and channel navigation.

Sassnitz is the third German destination in the Cruise Baltic network.
