Gastronomy

Cheese tasting at a sustainable, family-run cheese producer at Veldzicht Hoeve in Hoorn, the Netherlands is part of the eight-day ‘Windmills, Tulips and Belgian Delights’ programme departing April 6 onboard Scenic Jade. Passengers will be able to meet the family and learn about the day-to-day running of the energy-neutral dairy farm. Princes start at £1,795 per person.

Alternatively, passengers can try cheese and calvados at Honfleur, a commune in Normandy during the 11-day ‘Normandy and Gems of the Seine’ cruise.

The eight-day ‘Gems of the Danube’ itinerary involves Kuchibauer’s World of Beer in Regensburg, Germany, a brewery designed by Austrian artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser, as well as a microbrewery in Düsseldorf producing Altbier.

Along the way to Fruška Gora National Park, Serbia on the nine-day ‘Black Sea Explorer’ cruise, passengers can embark on wine tasting at a local, centuries-old monastery.

History

On the 15-day ‘Jewels of Europe’ cruise, passengers will have the chance to explore the decorated palace of Schloss Weikersheim in Miltenberg, Germany, including the well-preserved Knights Hall that dates back to the 1600s, as well as its Baroque gardens. Prices start at £4,095 per person, departing November 7 onboard Scenic Opal.

A guided tour of Marksburg Castle, Koblenz, Germany, perched above the Rhine features in the eight-day ‘Rhine Highlights,’ while the 15-day ‘Imperial Russia’ itinerary includes Bunker 42 presented by a local guide - the Cold War citadel is located beneath the streets of Moscow and was intended as a safehold for Stalin and top government officials in case of a nuclear attack.

Passengers sailing the Bordeaux region will visit Bassins de Lumières in Les Baux-de-Provence, a former World War II submarine shelter that has been repurposed into a digital art installation, with works that reflect off of the water.

Adventure

Scenic’s on board fleet of e-bikes supports further exploration, with passengers able to cycle along the Gironde River to Château de Benauge in Cadillac, for instance, during Scenic’s 11-day ‘Beautiful Bordeaux’ itinerary.

A guided hike to the Petrovaradin Fortress in Novi Sad, Serbia and kayaking on the Danube River in Belgrade form part of the 16-day ‘Danube Delta Discovery’ itinerary while Scenic’s eight-day ‘Idyllic Rhône’ schedule allows for kayaking down the Gardon towards the Pont du Gard aqueduct in Avignon, built by the Romans.

All-inclusive

Scenic’s river cruises are all-inclusive, with return flights or Eurostar travel, transfers, suites, a personal on board butler, wining and dining experiences, shore excursions and gratuities included.
