Shanghai is returning to normal domestic cruise operations by welcoming the first cruise after 1,152 days' dormancy since the pandemic outbreak.

The sailing will operate aboard Zhao Shang Yi Dun (formerly known as Viking Sun).

This first cruise will take passengers on a three-night round-trip from Shanghai to Zhoushan in Zhejiang province, highlighting cultural experiences.

Seven-night itinerary from May

Starting in May, Zhao Shang Yi Dun is to offer a seven-night Southeast China coastal itinerary including the major domestic ports of Zhoushan, Xiamen and Shenzhen.

Yi Dun setting sail from Shanghai marks the restart of Shanghai cruise homeporting after a three-year shutdown, noted Xu Juehui, managing director of Shanghai Port International Cruise Terminal Development.

Aim to resume international cruises by late Q3

According to Shanghai Municipal Transportation Commission, the city is actively working with related departments to make Shanghai become the first mainland Chinese cruise port to resume international cruising by the end of third quarter this year.
