Princess Cruises’ Sky Princess is the latest cruise ship to be commissioned for shore power at the Port of Southampton, utilising the Mayflower Cruise Terminal.
VP at Princess Cruises UK & Europe, Eithne Williamson, said, ‘We are committed to sustainability and this commitment is embedded in our business – from ship to shore.
‘Having Sky Princess commissioned for shore power at the Port of Southampton is an important step in the right direction to achieving our sustainability goals. We look forward to having more Princess ships commissioned for shore power at Southampton in the future.’
The line's Enchanted Princess called at the port for the first time in May.
Calls at Southampton through 2022
Both Southampton’s Mayflower Cruise Terminal and Horizon Cruise Terminal offer shore power, and the port anticipates welcoming more cruise ships for commissioning this summer.
Rebekah Keeler, head of cruise, Associated British Ports, said, ‘We are really pleased to celebrate this shore power milestone with Princess Cruises. It’s great to help facilitate the sustainability goals of our cruise line partners and to see a range of cruise ships connecting to shore power at Southampton. We look forward to welcoming Sky Princess back to the port throughout the year.’
