Southampton records 489 cruise calls, eight plaque ceremonies and shore power for 15 ships in 2022

It subsequently supported 15 ships in 'plugging in' a total of 42 times for zero emissions at berth. 

The port additionally participated in eight plaque and key ceremonies involving AIDAperla, AIDAcosma, Azamara Onward, Celebrity Beyond, Enchanted Princess, Norwegian Prima and Silver Moon, with the last ceremony taking place December 21 for P&O Cruises’ newest ship Arvia. 

Outlook for 2023

This year, the port expects 492 cruise calls and will host maiden calls from seven cruise ships, including new builds Explora I, measuring 248mtr long with capacity for 992 passengers, and Silver Nova, measuring 244mtr and able to accommodate 728 passengers.

Rebekah Keeler, head of cruise at Associated British Ports (ABP) said the Port of Southampton is proud to provide ‘cruise operational support year-round to the world’s biggest and smallest cruise ships.’

She said, ‘Alongside this, our ongoing roll out of our air quality strategy sees us take huge strides in facilitating zero emissions at berth. Supported by our port-based cruise services providers, we look forward to another successful year in 2023.’
