Spanish ports share cruise forecasts

Ports de la Generalitat de Catalunya reports its Costa Brava member ports expect to receive a combined 66 cruise calls carrying 60,000 passengers between April 3 and November 18.

Ports de la Generalitat oversees Catalán ports that are smaller than Barcelona and Tarragona. It states that 57 calls are planned at Palamós, amounting to 58,000 passengers, and that 63% of calls there will take place during the low season. Roses expects nine calls and 2,000 passengers.

A 32% growth

The figures represent a 32% growth in port calls and a 6% rise in passenger numbers compared with 2019.

Azamara Pursuit kicks off cruise season

The 2022 season launched with a maiden port call by Azamara Cruises’ Azamara Pursuit carrying 300 passengers to Palamós. Maiden port calls in Palamós are also planned this season by Sea Cloud Cruises’ Sea Cloud Spirit, TUI Cruises’ Mein Schiff 2, CroiseEurope’s La Belle des Océans and Regent Seven Seas Cruises’ Seven Seas Splendor

Cruise activity in Barcelona

Cruise calls in Barcelona are expected to increase as the 2022 season progresses and lines ratchet up capacity around the Mediterranean.

During the first three months of this year, 72 port calls brought a total of 92,517 cruise passengers to the Port of Barcelona, made up of 66,442 transit calls and 26,275 embarkations or disembarkations.

During the first quarter of 2019, there were 86 calls, carrying 304,950 passengers. Of these, 173,518 were in transit, with 131,432 involving passengers embarking or disembarking. 

Ports de la Generalitat and the Port of Barcelona will attend Seatrade Cruise Global in Miami next week.
