Spanish ports welcome Wonder of the Seas

The head of Barcelona port’s cruise division, Mar Perez, has expressed satisfaction at the ‘quality’ tourism Royal Caribbean International’s Wonder of the Seas will bring to the city as the line begins its first ever sailings in Europe from the Spanish port.

We feel very proud to welcome Wonder of the Seas,’ she said. ‘The ship’s turnaround in Barcelona is very important for the economy of the city since a lot of passengers will be visiting for an average of three days while staying in hotels - quality tourism happening before or after the cruise.

‘It also helps us promote that there are direct flights between Barcelona and other continents.’

Wonder of the Seas at the Port of Barcelona

Port representatives went aboard the vessel on Friday before it began a two-day sailing for travel trade from Barcelona. The vessel operated its first European cruise on Sunday 8 from there; it will continue sailing Europe departing Barcelona and Civitavecchia (Rome).

‘All of the measures Royal Caribbean have applied in terms of sustainability are impressive,’ the head of cruise added. ‘After the terrible years of the pandemic, we feel extremely happy to welcome Wonder of the Seas to the Port of Barcelona.’

During the May 6-8 sailing for travel agents, Wonder of the Seas called in Valencia where shuttle buses were operated by local company bc tours between the port and the Old Town 4km away.

Remarked Francesca Antonelli Ibáñez, marketing & cruises manager, commercial & business development, Port Authority of Valencia: ‘The visit of beautiful Wonder of the Seas in Valencia is a great opportunity for our port and our destination to show passengers the diversity we offer here in Valencia.’

Noting that Valencia offers passengers ‘an authentic Mediterranean’ experience, she highlighted Albufera, a park spanning 20,000ha, the village of Alboraya, vineyards in Utiel-Requena plus an underground river in Vall d'Uixó as key attractions for cruise passengers.
